During your visit

What to Expect

Coming to a new clinic can feel like a big step, especially if you are in pain, worried about your child, pregnant, or unsure what to expect.

At Better., our goal is to make your first visit clear, calm and comfortable.

We take the time to understand what is going on, assess your body properly and explain what we find in plain language. You will not be rushed, pressured or left confused about your next step.

Whether you are booking for yourself, your baby, your child or your family, we are here to help you feel informed and supported from the beginning.

Step 1: Your initial consultation

Your first appointment starts with a detailed conversation. We want to understand why you are here, what has been happening and what you would like help with.

We may ask about:

  • your current symptoms or concerns

  • when the issue started

  • what makes it better or worse

  • previous injuries or health history

  • work, lifestyle, posture and stress

  • sleep, movement and activity levels

  • pregnancy or birth history where relevant

  • your goals for care

If the appointment is for your baby or child, we may also ask about pregnancy, birth, feeding, sleep, growth, development, movement patterns and any concerns you have noticed at home. This helps us understand the full picture, not just the obvious symptom.

Step 2: Assessment and testing

After your consultation, we complete an assessment based on your age, presentation and reason for coming in.

This may include:

  • posture assessment

  • movement testing

  • spinal function checks

  • joint and muscle assessment

  • neurological screening where appropriate

  • orthopaedic tests where needed

  • infant or child developmental movement checks

  • discussion around whether imaging may be clinically appropriate

If X-rays or further investigation are needed, we will explain why and talk you through the next step. Not everyone needs imaging. It is only recommended when clinically appropriate.

2

Step 3: Review and clinical analysis

3

After your assessment, your chiropractor takes time to review your history, findings and goals.

This allows us to consider:

  • what may be contributing to your symptoms

  • how your spine and body are functioning

  • whether chiropractic care is appropriate

  • whether referral or further investigation is needed

  • what type of care may suit your situation

  • what your next steps should be

We do not believe in guessing or giving everyone the same plan. Your recommendations should make sense for your body, your stage of life and what you are trying to achieve.

Step 4: Report of findings

At your report appointment, we explain what we found. This is where we walk you through your results in clear, simple language so you understand what is going on and what we recommend.

We will discuss:

  • your assessment findings

  • what may be contributing to your symptoms

  • whether chiropractic care may help

  • what your care plan could look like

  • how often we recommend care

  • what outcomes we are working toward

  • whether another provider should be involved

If we do not believe we are the right fit for your concern, we will tell you clearly and recommend an appropriate referral where possible. No scare tactics. No pressure. No confusing jargon. Just a clear explanation and a practical plan.

4

Step 5: Beginning care

If chiropractic care is appropriate and you are comfortable to proceed, your care can begin.

Your care may include:

  • chiropractic adjustments

  • gentle age-appropriate techniques

  • posture and movement advice

  • practical lifestyle recommendations

  • exercises or home care where appropriate

  • ongoing review of your progress

Every care plan is tailored.

A baby, a pregnant mother, an athlete, a teenager and an adult with back pain will not all receive the same approach. Your care is based on your assessment findings, comfort level, goals and clinical needs.

How long should I allow?

For your first appointment, allow enough time for a thorough consultation and assessment.

As a guide:

  • initial consultation: approximately 45–60 minutes

  • report of findings: approximately 25–30 minutes

  • standard adjustment visits: usually shorter and more focused

Appointment times may vary depending on your needs and whether you are booking for an adult, baby, child or family.

What care feels like

Care at Better. is designed to feel calm, respectful and clearly explained.

Before we do anything, we explain what we are doing and why.

For adults, techniques may vary depending on your body and presentation.

For babies and children, care is gentle, specific and adapted to their age, size and stage of development.

For pregnancy, positioning and techniques are modified to keep you comfortable and supported.

You are always allowed to ask questions, pause or say no.

Our approach

At Better., we are focused on clarity, comfort and long-term function.

We want you to understand your body, not feel overwhelmed by it.

That means we will:

  • listen properly

  • assess thoroughly

  • explain clearly

  • recommend honestly

  • refer when needed

  • adapt care to your age and stage

  • keep your goals at the centre of the plan

Our aim is to help you feel more informed, more confident and better supported in your health.

What should I bring?

Please bring anything that may help us understand your history, including:

  • previous X-rays, scans or reports

  • referral letters if you have them

  • relevant medical history

  • a list of medications if needed

  • comfortable clothing you can move in

  • your baby’s feeding, sleep or birth details if relevant

For babies and children, you are welcome to bring anything that helps them feel comfortable.

Feeding, changing, cuddling and settling are always okay during appointments.
