Headaches & Migraines
Headaches & Migraines
Headaches and migraines can affect far more than your head.
They can impact your work, sleep, focus, mood, energy, exercise, parenting and ability to get through the day. For some people, headaches are occasional and frustrating. For others, they are regular, intense and completely disruptive.
At Better., we help people understand what may be contributing to their headaches or migraines and whether their spine, posture, neck tension, nervous system or daily habits may be playing a role.
Headaches may be common, but that does not mean they should be ignored or treated as normal.
Do you experience:
regular headaches?
migraines?
pressure around the forehead, temples or behind the eyes?
neck pain or stiffness with headaches?
shoulder tension?
headaches after desk work or screen use?
headaches that build through the day?
headaches on waking?
dizziness or light sensitivity?
nausea with headaches?
brain fog or poor concentration?
jaw tension or clenching?
headaches linked with stress?
headaches that keep coming back despite medication, sleep or hydration?
These symptoms can have many causes, so a proper assessment is important.
Sometimes headaches are linked with muscle tension, posture, stress, dehydration, sleep, hormones, jaw tension, vision strain or other health issues. Sometimes the neck and upper spine may be part of the picture.
Headaches are not always “just headaches”
Many people put up with headaches for years.
They take pain relief, drink more water, try to sleep it off, avoid triggers, push through work, or assume it is normal because friends or family get them too.
But frequent headaches can be your body’s way of telling you something is not functioning as well as it should.
If headaches are affecting your life, focus, sleep or ability to work, they are worth investigating properly.
The neck and headache connection
Your neck, shoulders and upper back work hard every day.
Phones, laptops, desk work, driving, stress, poor sleep positions and long hours sitting can all place extra load through the neck and upper spine.
Over time, this may contribute to:
tight neck muscles
reduced neck movement
irritated joints
shoulder tension
forward head posture
jaw tension
headaches that start at the base of the skull
pain that travels into the temples, forehead or behind the eyes
Some headaches are known as cervicogenic headaches, which means the pain is referred from the neck. These headaches can feel like head pain, but the source may involve the upper cervical spine, joints, muscles or surrounding structures.
At Better., we assess whether your neck and spine may be contributing to your headache pattern.
Migraines are different
Migraines are not just bad headaches.
They can involve symptoms such as:
intense head pain
nausea
vomiting
light sensitivity
sound sensitivity
visual changes or aura
dizziness
fatigue
difficulty thinking clearly
needing to lie in a dark room
Migraine can have many triggers and contributing factors, including stress, sleep, hormones, food triggers, dehydration, sensory overload, neck tension and nervous system sensitivity.
Chiropractic care does not replace medical migraine management. However, for some people, assessing the spine, neck, posture and nervous system may form part of a broader plan to support function and reduce physical stress.
Brain fog, tension and fatigue
Some people do not just get head pain. They also feel foggy, heavy, tired or mentally unclear.
You may notice:
difficulty concentrating
cloudy thinking
trouble finding words
pressure in the head
tired eyes
neck heaviness
feeling drained after screen work
tension that builds through the day
These symptoms can overlap with headaches, migraines, stress, poor sleep, posture strain and nervous system overload.
Our role is to assess the physical factors that may be contributing and help you understand what your body is trying to tell you.
Our approach at Better.
Your first appointment is designed to give you clarity.
We take the time to understand:
what your headaches feel like
where the pain is located
how often they happen
how long they last
what triggers or relieves them
whether you experience migraine symptoms
your sleep, stress, work and screen habits
your posture and movement patterns
your history of injury, concussion or trauma
whether any red flags are present
We then assess your neck, spine, posture, movement, muscle tension and nervous system function.
If clinically appropriate, we may recommend X-rays, referral to your GP, or further investigation.
Chiropractic care may help support:
Depending on your assessment findings, chiropractic care may help support:
improved neck and spinal movement
reduced muscle tension
better posture and movement awareness
reduced physical stress through the upper spine
improved comfort with desk work and screen use
better nervous system function
improved mobility through the neck and shoulders
fewer recurring tension patterns
greater confidence managing headache triggers
Care is always tailored to your presentation.
We do not treat every headache or migraine the same way, because the cause is not always the same.
When headaches need medical attention
Some headaches need urgent medical review.
Please seek immediate medical care if you experience:
a sudden, severe “worst headache of your life”
headache after a head injury
headache with fever, rash, confusion or neck stiffness
headache with weakness, facial drooping, slurred speech or vision loss
new or worsening headaches during pregnancy
headaches that are rapidly worsening
new headaches after age 50
headache with unexplained weight loss or cancer history
significant change in your usual headache pattern
These signs are not common, but they should not be ignored.
What to expect at your first appointment
At your initial consultation, we will:
talk through your headache or migraine history
ask about lifestyle, work, stress, sleep and triggers
assess posture, neck movement and spinal function
check for muscle tension, restriction or imbalance
perform neurological screening where appropriate
discuss whether imaging or referral is needed
explain what we find in plain language
recommend care only if appropriate
You should leave with a clearer understanding of what may be contributing to your headaches and what your next step should be.
You do not have to keep pushing through
Headaches and migraines can become something people learn to work around.
But living around pain is not the same as living well.
If your headaches are regular, intense, changing, or affecting your work, sleep, mood or family life, it is worth having them properly assessed.
At Better., we will help you understand what may be going on and whether chiropractic care may be suitable for you.
